Timber Tax

The timber tax in New Hampshire is a levy imposed on the value of timber harvested from private land. It was established as a means to generate revenue for the state while regulating the extraction of timber resources. The tax is based on the stumpage value of harvested timber, which refers to the value of standing trees ready for harvest. This tax helps ensure the sustainable management of forests and supports conservation efforts by providing an incentive for landowners to responsibly manage their timber resources.
